Creating an Organization

In order to create a new student organization, you need at least three student members and one faculty advisor. The advisor does not necessarily have to be from your campus, but it is typical as advisors need to be available to help students. Advisors are required to be eligible for benefits from ASU, meaning that they must be employed full-time by ASU. Talk to professors or faculty that are invested in what your organization is about. If you have difficulty finding an advisor, contact Ernesto for assistance.

Once you have three members and one advisor, you must create a constitution. A sample constitution can be found by clicking click here.

Storage

There are many cabinets available in the Student Organization Space (room L1-15 in the Post Office) for student organizations to use for storage. Contact Ernesto for more information.

Resource Rentals

Do you need something to spice up your event? How an A-Frame to help you promote? Or an iPad for students to take surveys? You’re in luck! USGD has created a resource rental program to serve students and student organizations in need of items for activities and events on campus. You can rent any of these items from USGD at any time so that your organization does not have to purchase them.

Room Reservations

Be sure to reserve rooms as soon as possible to ensure that you get a room with the capacity you need. If you have any questions about room capacities, reach out to Ernesto.

To reserve a room in any of the classroom buildings (Cronkite, UCENT, NHI 1 & 2, Mercado) click here, then log in with your ASU address. Click on “request an event” and fill out that form.

We strongly recommend that you purchase t-shirts, a table cloth, some informational flyers, and small giveaways at the very least if you are a new student organization. This can help with tabling events and recruiting members. Contact Ernesto if you need any help attaining quotes or finding information!

If you are not printing an item with an ASU logo or trademark, you are able to purchase items from wherever you see fit so long as it is approved by USGD’s senate.

Marketing

Marketing is very important for your organization and your events. Having a member of your team dedicated to marketing can be very helpful in the success of your events.

Off-Campus Bank Accounts

If your organization requires a bank account you will be required to get an EIN number. In order to get this number, visit the IRS page.
